What to expect
“My background is in training but in another field. I started learning magic a short time ago.
I reached out to Matthew after I signed up as an Apprentice at The Magic Circle. My experience in magic was very limited. Matthew was very happy to take on the challenge to help to guide me through the process of dealing with the audition for passing The Magic Circle exam.
Matthew taught me more than just to pass the exam. It was a whole course in scripting, performing, stagecraft and new effects. He helped and guided me to put together an act that had all the elements that I needed. It was an awesome experience. I have enjoyed the whole learning process so much I have continued training with Matthew even after I passed my audition First Time.
Thank you Matthew for your patience, skill in coaching, knowledge and personality. It was hard work but thoroughly enjoyed the whole process.”
Best wishes
Ray
The Magicians career path?
The Magicians career path can be just as mysterious at the secrets to the tricks.
I have spent a lifetime figuring things out on my own, from how to earn a living street performing, how to get cruise ship work and restaurant work, to how to pass the magic circle exam, win competitions, earn a full time living from magic.
I have achieved each of these and many more mile stones throughout my career as a magician, if you are looking to do the same I am here to help. No matter what your goal, dream or idea I am certain I will be able to help you make a plan that will get you there faster and stronger than you can alone.
Magic coaching explained
I help magicians get from where they are to where they want to be. I do this by helping them get clear on where they want to go, and providing them with a map of how to get there, without losing their way.
magic three
My process makes the most of your time and money with my experience in the magic three;
Coaching; “A coach is someone who provides guidance to a client on their goals and helps them reach their full potential.”
Mentoring; “A mentor is someone who shares their knowledge, skills, and/or experience, to help another to develop and grow.”
Accountability; Setting specific, measurable, and realistic goals and following up with a client regularly to help them stay on top of progress and make sure action is being taken toward meeting those goals.
how a coach changed my Life
I spent 15 years with the intent of being someone who goes to the ‘gym’, I liked the idea of it, I imagined what progress I’d make in 5 years’ time, and I pictured what I’d look like and feel like along with all the other positive outcomes! But there was one problem…
…I wasn’t going to the gym.
I was 32 and struggling with a very simple problem ‘going to the gym’, and one day I decided I wanted to crack this problem once and for all, how could I fix this?
I figured out I needed 3 things coaching, mentoring, and accountability.
Coaching; I hired a personal trainer who began by asking me some simple questions, my answers created a destination, they went away a wrote a workout plan this was essentially a route on a map that showed me how to get from where I was to where I wanted to be in the shortest distance.
Mentoring; I then spent 4 weeks learning how to do all the exercises properly with my PT by my side telling me when to correct my form and technique, checking for body imbalances, and also checking the weights for each exercise were correct and adjusting as we went along.
Accountability; Once I knew what I was doing and how to do it properly I checked in with my PT one week out of every 4, this was to make any adjustments to the exercises based on my feedback and adjust the weights based on what they saw as I worked. This for me was the missing ingredient, I finally had a visible reason to maintain my consistency; not only was I financially invested in reaching my fitness goals, but my PT would also be expecting results every 4 weeks.
Results; After one year of consistently going to the gym 4 times a week, I can safely say I am someone who regularly goes to the gym.
Instead of every 4 weeks, I now only need to see my PT every 12 weeks to keep me on track.
Mission accomplished.
Next steps
Ultimately the only thing holding you back is yourself, sometimes it takes an outsider to see your potential and provide a path to guide you further along your journey. This is where a magic coach comes in, I created this concept by combining all the necessary tools and the support structure required to give you the best conditions to unlock your potential and make progress toward your magic and performing goals.
If you’re interested in taking your magic and performance to the next level I’d love to talk! Book a discovery meeting FREE to find out more.
Who is coaching ‘not’ for?
Learning new tricks - Coaching is not for someone who is wanting to learn secrets or new tricks, although this may be a part of the learning process it is not the focus of the sessions. The process is more focused on discovering your authentic performing persona and creating material original to you that you can call your own.
People looking for a quick fix - Coaching is not a quick fix, it’s a multi-faceted process that takes time and a number of sessions to start seeing progress toward the goals which are defined at the outset.
People looking for the ‘easy route’ - If you are not prepared to put in the work required and apply the guidance and feedback coaching is not for you. I will provide you with a plan, knowledge, accountability, and support, you will need to follow the plan and apply the insights taken from each session. I can’t do the work for you.
People who cannot take constructive feedback - If you are unable or unwilling to take on feedback coaching is not for you. Collaboration is a central piece of each of the sessions, taking feedback and actioning homework assignments is key to moving you and your magic forwards in the right direction.
People who aren’t ready - Many of us are filled with ambition but aren’t in the right place to start taking action, there are many reasons for this and all are perfectly understandable. However, working with a coach requires time, headspace, and a level of commitment that you might not be ready for just yet. Please consider this before arranging a meeting.
